SHOPPERS in Rhondda Cynon Taff towns will be able to enjoy free parking this December.

People visiting Aberdare, Mountain Ash , Pontypridd, Tonypandy and Porth can use the council parking without charge for the entire month, from 10am each day – the third year the local authority has arranged this.

All vehicles must display a valid parking ticket or permit until 10am and disabled people can continue to park free at all times in designated disabled bays when they display their blue badge.

Andrew Morgan, leader of RCT council, said: “Christmas is the perfect time of year for our town centres to showcase all that they have to offer and once again this year the council will be providing free parking throughout December.

“This is the third year we have been able to extend the free Christmas parking period to cover the whole of ecember and proposals to make this a permanent arrangement every December, and plans to reduce parking charges generally, are currently being consulted on, as we continue to do all we can to support our town centres.

“There going on is so much in our town centres this Christmas, including a range of Christmas events organised by the council, and we hope many residents and visitors will take this opportunity to park for free and enjoy everything they have to offer.”

RCT council is currently asking its residents what they think about plans to reduce parking costs in local towns – including short stays of one hour reducing from 75p to 50p and two hours from £1.50 to £1.

The proposals put forward free Christmas parking in December every year.
