TON PENTRE LEFT STUNNED BY GOYTRE

-

GOYTRE UNITED .......... 5 TON PENTRE ................. 0

TON Pentre were wiped aside by their hosts at the picturesque Glenhafod Park Stadium, where Goytre United ran out 5-0 winners.

It was a shambolic performance from the Bulldogs, who will need to improve if they don’t want to be embarrassed when the television cameras come to Ynys Park on Sunday.

Their televised encounter against Bangor City in Round 3 of the JD Welsh Cup clearly seemed to be on the minds of the Ton Pentre players throughout this game and after threatening several times during the first half, the Goyts eventually took the initiative on 29 minutes.

Following some Goytre pressure, Gavin Morris was forced into making a clearance off the goal line for Ton Pentre. Goytre regained possession out wide on their right wing and when the ball was sent into the box, the Bulldogs defence allowed an unchallenged header that made it 1-0 to the home team.

During added time in the first half, the Bulldogs failed to deal with a free kick that was sent into the box. After Ton Pentre goalkeeper Joe Massaro failed to hold onto the ball, there was no reaction from the Bulldogs defence and the ball was prodded over the line for 2-0.

Ton Pentre were better in the second half and created some useful chances from which to score. However, they failed to get themselves back in the game and the Bulldogs knew it was all over when Goytre scored their third goal on 81 minutes.

A fourth goal was added five minutes later and prior to the full time whistle the Goyts capitalised on a goalkeeping error to make it 5-0.

The Bulldogs now have some soul searching to do before the S4C cameras come to Ynys Park for Round 3 of the JD Welsh Cup. Ton Pentre versus Bangor City is live on Sgorio from 2.45pm on Sunday, with the match kicking off at 3pm.
