TONYREFAIL made the short journey to Cowbridge for this Division 3 East Central B game but failed to take their chances when they arose in a first half where they had the better of things in territory and possession.

With three tries going begging for the want of doing the right thing Ton found themselves 7-0 down at half time against a determined home side and things got worse when Cowbridge crossed the try line five minutes into the second half.

Ton were quick to reply when they turned the ball over from the restart and Geraint Shalton made a clean line break to draw the defence before passing to Alex Pugsley who ran 30 yards to score. Owen Lewis added the extras and Ton supporters may have felt that things were going to get better but that was not to be and although the visitor’s pack were equal to the much heavier home eight they were kept in their own half for long periods with Cowbridge scoring another try and a penalty goal in the process.

With 80 minutes on the clock the score stood at 20-7 but in extra-time the home side crossed to get the try bonus point before Ton replied in the last minute to make the score look more respectable.

Ton will be disappointed with the result and performance after a run of good form but once again their small player pool has had an adverse effect. Next week they are at home to Old Penarthians and hopefully they get the win to consolidate their current mid table position.
