The cute little pair who need a loving new home

AN animal welfare centre is looking for caring people to rehome two puppies which were cruelly abandoned in a park on Bonfire Night.

The nine-week-old puppies – Lurcher-cross Sparkle and Collie-cross Boom – were left in the cold in a park in Mountain Ash and are now being cared for by the rehoming centre staff at Dogs Trust Bridgend, after initially being picked up by the RSPCA.

The charity suspects they may have been bred to be sold as Christmas presents, only to be given up when no buyers could be found.

Or they may have been bought as pets but abandoned when their owners had second thoughts, the charity says.

Angela Wetherall, the rehoming centre manager, said: “It’s so shocking that someone could abandon two young, small and helpless dogs in this way.

“They are adorable and they have already melted a few hearts here at the centre.

“It is worrying that so many people still buy puppies on a whim and don’t understand the lifelong commitment involved.

“Dogs Trust always recommends that owners get their dogs neutered to avoid the likelihood of unwanted litters, which all too frequently end up at rescue charities to be rehomed.

“In the lead up to Christmas, we would like to remind everyone that a dog is for life.”

The puppies require active homes with owners who appreciate the demands of young puppies and are at home most of the day to help them get settled in to their new home.

If you are interested in giving a home to Sparkle or Boom, or any of the other dogs at Dogs Trust Bridgend, call 0300 303 0292.
