RHONDDA Cynon Taf council has revealed the revised recycling and bin collection dates for the Christmas period.

The week after Christmas – starting on Monday, December 26 – will represent the only change to people’s collection dates over the whole period of Christmas and New Year.

Each collection will be a day later than usual – so for instance, people who have a normal collection day of Monday will see it revised to Tuesday, and Tuesday collections will be undertaken on Wednesday, and so on.

The final collection to change will be that due on Friday, December 30, which will be carried out on Saturday, December 31.

From Monday, January 2, 2017, there will be no change to collection days.

A statement from the council said: “Please remember to place refuse and recycling out before 7am on your collection day and not before as this can lead to spillages and difficulties for pedestrians using the pavement.

“If we have not collected your refuse/recycling as planned, please leave it at the kerbside as we may be working additional hours to clear a back log and we’ll get to you as soon as possible – our crews can work well in to the evening during busy periods and extra staff can sometimes be called in to clear the items the next day.”

There will be no bulky waste collections or wheelie bin deliveries from Tuesday, December 27, to Friday, January 9.

There will also be no green waste collections during this time and normal service resumes on Monday, January 9 – with the council saying the de- mand for dry and food recycling taking priority during the Christmas period.

But, a tree collection service – applying only to real trees, not artificial ones - will be offered free to all residents.

You must book your slot online at www.rctcbc.gov. uk/christmastrees or by calling 01443 425001 before 1.30pm the day before your collection.

It will be collected on the same day as normal recycling collections, and people are asked to chop up your tree into manage- Monday, December 26 Tuesday, December 27 Wednesday, December 28 Thursday, December 29 Friday, December 30 able chunks and place it in clear recycling bags where possible.

The council’s 180 collection points for recycling bags have been restocked, and will continue to receive deliveries over the Christmas period.

To free up even more space, you can also visit Tuesday, December 27 Wednesday, December 28 Thursday, December 29 Friday, December 30 Saturday, December 31 one of the seven local recycling centres across RCT.

They will be open from 8am to 5.30pm every day except a 3.30pm closure on December 24 and December 31, and a full closure of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, RCT cabinet member for environment, leisure and culture, said: “Think green during the festive period and remember to recycle all that extra waste – wrapping paper, cards, toy packaging etc.

“Everyone needs to realise that we all have to play our part to recycle more waste – not just at Christmas.

“Rhondda Cynon Taf council continues to support people and is encouraging residents to keep up the good work all year around.

“The council provides an accessible and innovative recycling service, complemented by ongoing public education and awareness-raising.

“Thanks to the efforts of our residents, together we’ve recycled over 66%, of our waste in just six months placing RCT in the top 10 across Wales and 4% away from meeting the 70% target set by the Welsh Government for 2025.

“If we pull together and recycle as much as we can – we could hit this target this year.”
