A YOUNG mother died in a tragic accident after leaving a chip pan on after a night out, an inquest heard.

Abbie Bloodworth, 19, died after a fire at her home in Cwmparc, Treorchy, in the early hours of Friday, August 19.

An inquest at Aberdare Coroners’ Court last week heard Ms Bloodworth – who was a mum to a threeyear-old daughter – was one of four children and her death followed those of her two sisters.

A witness statement from Ms Bloodworth’s mother, Samantha Dorricott said Ms Bloodworth’s sisters Amy and Emily died in separate incidents.

Ms Dorricott said 21-year-old Amy died after a period of ill health, while Emily died two weeks after her 15th birthday, although it was not clear what the cause was.

“I couldn’t believe it happened – especially with what happened with my other daughters,” Ms Dorricott said in her statement.

The inquest heard how, on August 18, Ms Bloodworth had gone out with friends and had drunk alcohol.

Ms Dorricott said she would look after her granddaughter every Thursday so Ms Bloodworth “could have time for herself ”.

Ms Bloodworth was last seen by her mother at about 10.30pm on the night before her death.

In her statement, Ms Dorricott said she warned her daughter not to cook if she went out after an incident a couple of years ago when she had left a pizza in the oven.

“When I left I said ‘Love you’ and she said ‘I love you too’ and gave me a cwtch,” Ms Dorricott said.

The inquest heard Ms Bloodworth went out and spent time with Kristopher Woolf.

In his statement, Mr Woolf said they met up at about 11pm and sat on a bench near to Treorchy Rugby Club chatting and drinking wine.

He walked her home and they went inside. Mr Woolf said he left at about 3am and Ms Bloodworth seemed in a “merry condition” and did not appear to be drunk.

Ms Bloodworth was due to pick up her daughter at about 8.30am but when she failed to turn up, Ms Dorricott said she became concerned.

She went to Ms Bloodworth’s house and raised the alarm after noticing soot on the window and the smell of smoke through the letter box.

The inquest heard how Ms Bloodworth’s stepfather Robert Davies forced his way into the property and found her “slumped over the sofa”.
