Christmas rail disruption

RAIL services will be disrupted over the Christmas period as improvemen­t works take place.

Network Rail is undertakin­g essential modernisat­ion work in the South Wales area which will affect local Cardiff and Valleys services and mainline services between Newport, Cardiff Central and Bridgend.

The work will enable the potential for more services to run on the Cardiff and Valleys network in the future.

From Tuesday, January 3, Platform 8 at Cardiff Central station will also be open with Penarth, Barry Island and Vale of Glamorgan

line services being run from there between 6am and 8pm, Monday to Saturday. These services willw continue to run from PlatformPl 7 at all other times wit with the exception of: Monday to Frida Friday: 06.36 Cardiff Central – Penarth (Platform 4), 06.56 Cardiff Central – Barry Island ( (PlatformPl­atform 4), 12.55 Cardiff Central – Barr Barry Island ( (PlatformPl­atform 4 4) Sat Saturday: 06.36 Cardiff Centr Central – Pen Penarth (Platf (Platform 4), 06.56 Cardiff Centr Central – Barry Island (Platf (Platform 3). Customers are also urged to check their specific journeys online where possible.

Services during the Christmas and new year period will be as follows: Services will thin out from 6pm with no trains running after 10pm.

Passengers have been asked to check their last train home.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day No services. A rail replacemen­t bus service will run between Newport, Cardiff Central and Bridgend.

A rail replacemen­t bus service will run to and from Cardiff Central on the Rhymney Line/Caerphilly services.

No train services will run between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central stations.

Train services will run between Aberdare/Merthyr/ Treherbert and Pontypridd with a connecting rail replacemen­t bus service running between Pontypridd and Cardiff Central every 15 minutes.

A rail replacemen­t bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Barry Island and between Barry and Bridgend on the Vale of Glamorgan line.

No train services will run between Cardiff and Penarth.

Ticket acceptance has been agreed with Cardiff Bus.

No train services will run on the City Line between Radyr and Cardiff via Danescourt.

Ticket acceptance has been agreed with Cardiff Bus.

No train services will run on the Coryton Line.

Ticket acceptance has been agreed with Cardiff Bus.

Train services will run between Ebbw Vale Town and Newport Station to connect with a rail replacemen­t bus service between Newport and Cardiff Central.

December 29 and 30 and New Year’s Eve Train services will run between Ebbw Vale Town and Newport Station to connect with train services running between Newport and Cardiff.

Arriva Trains Wales services from Cheltenham to Cardiff Central will only run between Gloucester and Newport. There will be no local Cardiff and Valleys services except Cardiff to Barry and Bridgend via the Vale of Glamorgan line.

A rail replacemen­t bus service will run between Cardiff Central and Newport.

Arriva Trains Wales West Wales train services will be diverted via a different route between Cardiff Central and Bridgend. GWR services will run between Swansea and Bridgend.
