WORK could start on a new school to replace Glynhafod Junior and Cwmaman Infants’ in Cwmaman in a matter of months, it has been revealed.

WORK could start on a multi-million-pound new school in the Cynon Valley in a matter of months.

The state-of-the-art new building – which will be built at the village’s old colliery site at Glanaman Road – will replace Glynhafod Junior and Cwmaman Infants’ schools in August 2018.

Now it has been revealed that building works could begin in March 2017.

Meanwhile, a new artist’s impression image of what the school will look like has also be released, showing from above how the school and its vast grounds will be laid out.

Plans for the £7.2m school were shown to local people in the Cynon Valley village recently, and Rhondda Cynon Taf council says that work could start in the New Year subject to planning permission.

The council’s consultation with local residents will end on December 22, and then full planning permission will be sought.

RCT council’s cabinet member for education Eudine Hanagan said: “Supported by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools Programme, the new school will bring together the infants and junior schools, which are currently separate schools located half a mile apart, making it easier for parents.

“As the latest images show, pupils and staff will benefit from improved 21st-century standard educational facilities, which will include excellent access to outdoor leisure facilities such as the new Multi Use Games Area.

“The wider community are also set to be able to enjoy a new play area and community room as well as benefiting from flood alleviation works taking place as part of the development.

“Over the last few weeks, council staff have met with the local football club, school governors, staff and pupils who have all welcomed the planned investment in the area.”

Information about the planning application can be viewed online at www. asbriplanning.co.uk, and hard copies are available at Aberdare Library.
