Junction roadworks start date revealed
PLANS to improve a busy junction in Mountain Ash by adding two new lanes and converting a street to a one-way system should happen in January.
During September, Rhondda Cynon Taf council announced plans to improve traffic flow on the A4059 at its junction with Troedyrhiw Road.
The works will introduce dedicated right turn lanes on the A4059, for vehicles travelling in both directions, turning onto Troedyrhiw Road.
As part of the changes, a one-way system will be introduced on the section of road from the A4059 junction, southwards to its junction with Cardiff Road.
The council says the changes are now planned for January, subject to a public notice period ending, and have released an image showing what the proposed changes will include.
Andrew Morgan, leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf council, and cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “The introduction of these latest improvements along the A4059 Cynon Valley corridor will further help reduce congestion and improve traffic flows on the main thoroughfare through the valley.
“The council recognises that thousands of motorists every day rely on this road and we know that there have been concerns over congestion in the past because the public has told us so.
“The scale of the investment and range of the works we are currently delivering along the A4059 is significant and is part of the overall investment in highways and transportation we are making across Rhondda Cynon Taff.
“I am keen we continue this significant investment in transportation in the coming year along- side the investment we can expect in the valleys through the Metro project.”
The council project is the latest to improve traffic on the A4059 – with improvements at the Ynys roundabout, Asda roundabout and the foot- bridge near Ysbyty Cwm Cynon already completed
A project is also in the pipeline to improve the Cwmbach roundabout, and plans are progressing on the major Cross Valley Link in Mountain Ash.
