Bride Rebecca Griffiths had no problem getting to the church on time – because it was at the end of her street

When Llwydcoed’s Rebecca married Andrew Foley in August, there was no need for a horse-drawn carriage or limousine to get her to church.

In fact, she walked around 200 yards from her home in nearby Lle Hyfryd to St James Church on Merthyr Road, and the streets had been decorated by friends and family.

“My mum told me it was unlucky for the bride to look out of the window on the her wedding day,” said Rebecca. “So when I walked out and saw the decorations it was a lovely surprise.”

The incredibly wideeyed owl was found by a member of the public in Aberdare

In November, the RSPCA appealed for help to find the owner of this owl which was found in the Cynon Valley.

And, we could only imagine the shock that the member of the public had when they came across the eagle owl and those wide orange eyes.

RSPCA inspector Gemma Cooper said: “It was certainly an unusual find - and, as one of the largest species of owl, must have taken the passer-by by surprise!”

There was delight when it was announced the old hire boats are coming back to Aberdare Park’s lake

You will soon see boats floating on Aberdare Park’s beautiful lake once again, and news of their return – for the first time in years – came in December. And you won’t have to wait long to be able to hire a boat there - during February, in fact.

RCT councillor Ann Crimmings said: “Many residents and visitors to the park will be able to recall the site of boats floating around the lake and I am delighted to confirm that the council plans to re-introduce them shortly to further improve the visitor offer.”

The Cynon Valley’s version of Wizzard’s classic Christmas song was absolutely brilliant

Local businesses showed their Christmas spirit with their rendition of I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – and it was fantastic.

From dentists to vets, and chip shop workers to opticians each sang a line of the song, and it certainly proved a hit on social media.

Andrew Chainey, one of the people behind the video, said: “It’s just people stepping up and saying this is our valley and we are proud of it.”
