TWO people were injured and roads were plunged into chaos after a collision on a busy South Wales road on Monday.

Paramedics were called to the A472 at the A470 Abercynon roundabout at about 7.30am following an incident involving three vehicles.

Police are investigating the crash, but say it may have been caused by one driver having a medical episode at the wheel.

However, that is yet to be confirmed.

A witness said: “I was taking my son to school going towards Fiddlers Elbow. I was going round the roundabout and heard a massive bang.

“There was what I would call a 10-tonne truck which had collided with a taxi and a van. The truck and the van ended up on the grassy verge and the taxi span 180 de- grees in front of me.”

South Wales Police had to keep the road closed for several hours while they conducted investigations and recovered the vehicles.

In a statement on Monday the force said: “South Wales Police attended a road traffic collision which occurred at the junction of the A472 Cilfynydd Road at its turning towards Nelson and the A470.

“Three vehicles were involved – a Vauxhall In- signia, a Mercedes van and a skip loader.

“Two people have been taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. One has been taken ill and a second had minor injuries.”

Police later confirmed both people had subsequently been released from hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and quote reference 1700009779.
