PONTYPRIDD forged ahead after getting the better of the early exchanges, a penalty kicked by outside half Lewis K Williams after just two minutes followed up by a try as winger Dale Stuckey charged down a clearance and pounced to score, with Williams converting.

The home team regrouped and were soon back in contention, Jacob Botica opening their account with a penalty kicked on 10 minutes.

The North Walians were creative in attack, winger Andrew Williams rounding off a fine move with a try under the posts which Botica duly converted. Impressive full back Afon Bagshaw then gathered a Botica kick to claim another try with the provider adding the conversion.

Bagshaw was involved in the build-up as RGC struck again, winger Aron Evans touching down to give his side a deserved interval lead of 22-10.

The home team continued to apply pressure after the break, and barely five minutes in extended their lead as centre Tom Hughes crossed for a try which Botica successful­ly converted.

Having struggled to compete since the opening period, Ponty at last made an impact as centre Dafydd Lockyer forged a dynamic break, the ball recycled for prop Joe Popple to cross for a try which Williams converted.

Botica struck a penalty from mid distance to extend the home lead, with Aron Evans then winging in for his second try on the hour mark, with Botica once more adding the conversion.

A raft of substituti­ons made by both sides impacted on the flow of an entertaini­ng encounter late on, but RGC in no mood to wind down as Botica put over another well struck penalty to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

With the match already well won, the home team had the final say as replacemen­t Danny Cross touched down wide out to register a final advantage of 47-17.
