THE first game of the New Year saw the hosts gain a deserved victory with a superb team display full of movement and team spirit.

Both teams knew the importance of the match, more so West End, they set their stall out contesting the midfield through Elliott Golan and Chris Hole. Llwydcoed responded with Tomos Morris, Shay Friel and Oliver Roberts combining after the early exchanges. Llwydcoed began to win more and more possession through John Marczak linking up the play with Jonathan Mason. West End defended the situation through Nicky Parvin and Luke Blackmore, the West End defence were the busier at this stage.

The Llwydcoed defence then came under a short spell of pressure and West End were awarded a few free kicks in good areas the hosts defenders Gabriel Williams, Adam But- ler and midfield players Tomos Morris and Oliver Roberts cleared the threat. The next passage of play saw Llwydcoed’s Shay Friel and Tomos Morris play the part in threatening the West End defence winning and creating opportunities for Ricky Carter and Andrew Ellis and they were rewarded for this first class play and scored the opening goal through Ricky Carter who was played through by Shay Friel, he stepped his way through the West End defence and scored a deserved goal.

The match was being controlled by Llwydcoed, their midfield player Tomos Morris was first to everything and to make things worse for West End they had a player sent off for foul play. Another Llwydcoed attack saw Andrew Ellis being brought down in the penalty area to win a penalty award. Up stepped Ricky Carter to score his second goal and his team’s.

West End were now a player less and under constant pressure, more pressure by Llwydcoed saw them win a corner kick taken expertly by Oli- ver Roberts, his delivery was met by Ricky Carter to score goal number three with a towering header to complete his hat-trick. A superb first half by Llwydcoed’s young team.

West End started the second half responding to their half-time team talk, showing more belief threatening the Llwydcoed defence and midfield, trying to reduce the scoreline, but although they won a few free kicks the threat was cleared. Llwydcoed had chances to score, the West End goalkeeper Ross Greenwood saving bravely from Jonathan Mason twice. The match was not as fluent as the first half mainly because of too many free kicks and then Llwydcoed had a player sent off to equal the number on both teams.

As the match entered the final quarter Llwydcoed introduced substitute Ioan Evans with a player missing from both teams the spaces began to open up. West End tried to reduce the scoreline but the quality of Llwydcoed’s play saw them up their game and scored three more goals with Jonathan Mason (2) and Oliver Roberts (1) finalising the scoring to gain a superb victory savoured by the hosts’ supporters.
