TAFF ELY BOWLS

-

WITH no schedule of events at the Goods Yard Stadium for the first full week of the new year, the Taff Ely bowlers are preparing for the completion of their National East League fixtures where they will visit the Sophia Gardens Stadium in Cardiff to round off the over-60s programme, although the Taff Ely club has no prospect of achieving any top honours.

The fixture will no doubt be a keen encounter as over past seasons the games have provided an immense interest from both clubs. The Taff bowlers will battle to gain as many points in their quest to reach a respectable position in the league. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18 where on the previous Saturday (14th) the Taff Ely club members will travel to the coastal club venue of Sully for their National Championship East league fixture.

Taff Ely currently in the second position of the respective league will endeavour to reach out to maintain that position as the top position has been held throughout the season with a 100% record of wins for the Port Talbot club.

The only glimmer of hope for the Taff Ely bowlers to hit the top rung of the ladder is that the Port Talbot club in their remaining two matches, one of which is to visit the Goods Yard stadium in the final fixture of the league programme and their home game to the Newport club where the Port Talbot club will strive to maintain their record, any unlikely slip up from the Aberavon seaside club will there be a chance for the Taff Ely club who would also seek to win their three final fixtures.

The Taff bowlers in reality know that their conquest will be to end their league season with a second position place that will satisfy captain Adrian Dash, who along with his squad of bowlers to over- come the visit to Sully and a visit to the Bridgend club Ogwr in preparation for the climax of the game of the season to visiting Port Talbot.

Sunday, January 15 is the closing date for all Taff Ely members to register for their domestic open competitions where to date a keen interest once again is being shown, however, more members are to be encouraged to participate in the event with a view of qualifying to add their names to the Stadium’s honours board.
