Proud slimming king Kieron piles on plaudits at awards
Two in court over golf club death
TWO men have appeared in court in connection with the death of a man whose body was pulled from a lake at a golf club.
Dale Pike, 25, of Chain Walk, Glynneath, and Jonathan Pike, 47, of Ystradfellte, Aberdare, are charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.
Gareth Pugh was 29 when he died in the grounds of Peterstone Golf Club on February 11 last year. The case was listed for a plea and trial preparation hearing before Judge Eleri Rees at Cardiff Crown Court last Thursday.
Around 15 people packed into the public gallery for the hearing, which lasted for about 20 minutes.
The defendants, both dressed in black suits and ties, spoke only to confirm their names and have not yet entered pleas.
Mr Pugh was working for a golf ball collecting company at the time of the incident.
A provisional trial date was set for July 3 and proceedings are expected to last for about three weeks.
The defendants were granted bail until their next hearing on February 10. A CYNON Valley man who helps 500 people lose weight each week has been honoured for the support he provides to his Aberaman slimming group.
Dedicated Kieron Gough – a star slimmer himself – says he “couldn’t be more proud” to be recognised for helping people transform their lives – having been named in the top 90 of Slimming World consultants from the organisation’s 4,500 across the UK.
Since the group started in October 2012, he has helped more than 1,000 people lose thousands of pounds in weight collectively. He launched that group at Abercwmboi RFC – after losing more than eightand-a-half stones in weight himself.
Kieron was recently invited to Slimming World’s Gold and Pearl Day, hosted in Nottingham, for being in the company’s top 2.5% of consultants. He is now also one of Slimming World’s eight consultant trainers, delivering the foundation training at Slimming World’s head office in Derby.
Kieron said: “I know that I am helping people out there who do struggle to lose weight on their own and we are making a real difference. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of our small-but-perfectly-formed training team. The event itself was inspiring and motivating from start to finish – I think I spent most of the day smiling from ear-to-ear.
“I headed home to Aberaman absolutely brimming with ideas, and I can’t wait to use what I’ve learnt to take the support I give to the members of my group to the next level.”
Among the people that Kieron has helped lose weight is primary school teacher Christopher Hodges – who lost a staggering 25st after joining the Aberaman class in January 2015.
Christopher said: “Without the group and weekly support I would never have lost weight. I have lost over half my body weight now losing 25st 7lb in less than two years. I can’t thank Kieron enough.”
Kieron added: “The invite to the event, and being one of Slimming World’s Gold Consultants, belongs to my 500 Aberaman members too.
“They’re the ones who make my groups the success that it is.
“So I’d like to congratulate them on this award too.”
