putting the Labour Club side 6-4 before a fine hold (2-0) from Graham Price 100, 137 saw him beat Ray Phillips to complete a fine 7-4 win.

A FANTASTIC Tavern side started the match well with Nicky Griffiths 100, D Wells 121 and Chris Brogden breaking the throw of Matthew Churchill, Dai Spencer and Carl Jones and the home side then quickly added to their lead with George Scott 100, Gareth Coombs and S Davies 125 holding over Adam Pollard 126, Craig Rees and Roy Wilkes as the sides prepared for the pairs battles.

The first pairs encounter saw the Guest get into the game with Tony Pollard and Mark Benbow holding throw over D Wells and Chris Brogden but the home side were quick to reinforce their dominance with Gareth Coombs and George Scott 100 apiece holding throw over Teg Powell and Carl Jones for a 3-1 lead which then became 4-1 as S Davies 123 and Nicky Griffiths broke Matthew Churchill and Craig Rees 140 ahead of the singles games.

D Wells 120 increased the hosts lead with a win over Teg Powell but then a splendid performanc­e from Tony Pollard 100, 121, 97 out saw him beat Chris Brogden earning the Bowls a second point, which unfortunat­ely for them proved to be their last. Nicky Griffiths 100 held against Matthew Churchill putting the home side 6-2 ahead before George Scott 100 edged past Mark Benbow 100 in a very close game putting his side 7-2 ahead. Further wins from Gareth Coombs and S Davies 100 apiece over Dai Spencer and Adam Pollard 125 re- spectively saw the hosts complete a fine 9-2 win.

THIS was a terrible result for the Angel but a very good night for the Pen with both sides battling hard for the points.

Jonathon Evans, S Clark and Phil Bond 180 got the ball rolling for the Pen with a break over Chris John, Graham Hancock and Steve George and then a great hold from Richard Beynon 120, Gerald Jones and Wayne Lee 121 against Ron Davies, Rhys Phillips and Mark Jones saw the home side take a 2-0 lead moving into the pairs legs.

Mark Davies 100 and Glen Callan took the first of the pairs legs battling past Gerald Jones 100 and Wayne Lee getting the Angel into the game and this was followed by a break as Brent Morgan and Rhys Phillips beat S Clark 140 and Johnathon Evans 100 to level matters at two apiece. The last of the pairs saw Richard Beynon and Nigel Owen 100 apiece break Steve George and Graham Hancock 121 to regain the upper hand for the home side as the teams looked to the singles games.

Jonathon Evans 116 picked up his third win of the night with a good hold over Chris John making it 4-2 to the home side which then became five with Nigel Owen edging past a battling Mark Davies 100. Richard Beynon 100 made it 6-2 with narrow win over Mark Jones 100 and in the next game Phil Bond 2x100 broke old timer Ron Davies adding another point for the Pen. Glen Callan gained a valuable and much needed third point for the Angel with a win over Wayne Lee with Gerald Jones then making it 8-3 with a final-leg break over Brent Morgan.

THIS was an excellent result for the Lord whose unpredicta­ble form continues.

Kevin Snowden, Lance Thomas and Mike Matthews 100 apiece started well for the home side with a break against Chris Davies, Mark Birch and Sharif Rasul and 1-0 then became 2-0 with Brian Meek 100, Kiron Meek and Karl Hunt beating Dean Jenkins, Steven Walker 100 and Anthony Morris with a battling hold.

Karl Hunt and Mike McLaughlin 100 added more pressure to the visitors with a break in the first pairs over Anthony Morris and Chris Davies and the Lord then held a 4-0 lead with Brian Meek 100 and Kiron Meek beating Mark Birch and Neil Winstone against the darts. Sharif Rasul 140 and Steffan Williams then finally got the Bullet firing with a hold over Lance Thomas and Kevin Snowden to trail 4-1 going into the singles legs.

Lance Thomas battled past Dean Jenkins in the first singles putting the Lord 5-1 ahead before the excellent Chris Davies 100, 121 held against Mike McLaughlin gaining a second point for the away side. Kiron Meek got the hosts back on the winning trail with victory over Steven Walker and then a break from dad Brian Meek over Neil Winstone saw the scoreline reach 7-2 in the Lord’s favour. Mark Birch took the darts off Mike Matthews in the penultimat­e leg for a third visiting point with Kevin Snowden claiming the last leg for the hosts with victory over Steffan Williams.

A VERY entertaini­ng game got under way with Idwal Peters 117, Trevor Williams and Adrian Williams breaking G Probert, B Lloyd and R Lloyd for an early home lead which then became 2-0 with Wayne James 100, Paul Prosser 100 and Anthony Prosser beating Mike Terrett, G Robertson and M O’Brien as the sides prepared for the pairs games.

Steve Probert and G Robertson held throw in the first of the pairs with a good win over Wayne James 121 and Paul Prosser getting the Daggers their first point but the relief was short lived as Idwal Peters and Trevor Williams 100 beat Mike Terrett and Dennis George regaining the Imps’ twopoint advantage.

A great performanc­e from Steve Llewellyn 125 and M Thomas 2x100 saw them beat Anthony Prosser 100 and Adrian Williams to reduce the deficit to a single point heading into the singles.

Steve Probert 2x100 picked up his second win of the match with a break over Idwal Peters in the first singles to square the match with Trevor Williams 139 beating Mike Terrett to nudge the hosts ahead at 4-3. Wayne James 100 extended the advantage to 5-3 battling past G Robertson but then Steve Llewellyn 100 held throw over in-form Adrian Williams 123, 127 to make the score 5-4 to the Imp. Paul Prosser 2x100 made it 6-4 to the Imp with a hard fought hold over Dennis George with M Thomas 140 taking the final point of the match for the Daggers with victory over Anthony Prosser 121.

DIVISION FOUR VNU ................................ 7 ABERFAN HOTEL ......... 4

THIS was an exciting game from beginning to end with both sides eager for the points.

Errold Jones 107, G Jenkins and Clive Powell 140 taking the darts off M Devonshire 100, 112, D Pugh, and Jamie Murtagh 100 for an early lead but this was short lived with J Jones, D Murtagh and P Colston getting the better of Rhiannon Jenkins, Mark Hadley and Steve Darlow for a level game going into the pairs legs.

Jamie Murtagh and J Jones edged the visitors into the lead for the first time with victory over Steve Darlow 100 and Clive Powell but the VNU were quick to respond with Errold Jones and Rhiannon Jenkins 100 apiece holding over M Devonshire and P Colston to level at two each.

The final pairs went the way of the hosts with G Jenkins and Mark Hadley 125 breaking D Murtagh and D Pugh for a 3-2 lead going into the singles legs.

Errold Jones notched up his third win of the night with a fine hold over D Pugh in the first of the singles for a 4-2 lead with Jamie Murtagh then pulling a point back for the visitors with a good hold over Rhiannon Jenkins 100.

G Jenkins 120 pulled off a remarkable hold over M Devonshire 2x100, 120 putting the VNU 5-3 ahead before D Murtagh held over Clive Powell taking a fourth point for the Hotel. Mark Hadley 140 made it 6-4 to the hosts with a hold over P Colston before Steve Darlow 100 completed the victory with a break over J Jones 100.

LLWYN-YR-EOS ............ 5 CYFARTHFA ARMS ...... 6

K DRISCOLL, Dominic Illari 115 and Jarred Russell 100 got the away side off to a good start with a fine hold over D Day 2x100, Shaun Craze and G Evans but things were soon tied up at one apiece with J Firth, Tyrone Day and A Daulton beating J Bailey, S James and P Foxhall.

Tyrone Day and G Evans 100 apiece put the Llwyn into the lead for the first time in the match with a break in the first pairs over K Driscoll 100 and Jarred Russell 140 and then the hosts went 3-1 ahead with A Daulton and Jordan King holding over P Foxhall and Dominic Illari. J Bailey and S James then took the final pairs with a hold over Shaun Craze and N Sullivan to leave the away side trailing by one point going into the singles.

K Driscoll 100, 125 was in fine form beating G Evans 120 against the darts in the first singles levelling the match at 3-3 with N Sullivan 100 then nudging the hosts ahead again at 4-3 with a break over S James.

Jarred Russell 126 made it all square again with victory over J Firth 101 with J Bailey then scoring a good hold over A Daulton 100 making it 5-4 to the visitors before Dominic Illari sealed the win with an excellent break against Jordan King.

D Day took the last point of the match for the hosts with a good break over P Foxhall in a hard fought leg.

This Friday, January 27, and the following Friday, February 3, sees the two qualifying rounds of the Pairs Competitio­n take place at the Penydarren Social Club.

Roll-call on both weeks will be 7.30pm for a start of 7.45pm. Any pairs not present at roll-call will be eliminated from the competitio­n.

Will all teams in Division Four please note that the Pantyscall­og Inn are no longer in the league so there is now a bye in the division.

To this end all points won/lost against the Pantyscall­og Inn in games they played have now been removed from the results/division.

Apologies to any sides adversely affected by this course of action.
