AFC LLWYDCOED ........ 3 NEWPORT CITY ............ 0

LLWYDCOED returned to league action after last week’s postponement whereas City arrived full of belief and confidence after their victory last week.

The AFC Llwydcoed management team were without squad players Adam Butler, Andrew Ellis (injured) and Shay Friel (suspended) so Rhys Welch covered the defensive spot.

City started the better of both teams through Pat- rick Pope, Jordan Chubb and Salaheddine Fahmi combining and putting pressure on the Llwydcoed defence whose goalkeeper Andy Hargreaves made the opening save from City’s Robert James.

More good play by City saw Patrick Pope shoot from a distance, Llwydcoed were not able to build any type of sustained play because of City’s work rate.

After this difficult spell for Llwydcoed they began to gain some possession through Tomos Morris, Joe Jenkins and Ioan Evans, this was the start of some good play by Llwydcoed’s Jonathan Mason combined with Oliver Roberts who gave Ricky Carter the chance to open the scoring that the City goalkeeper Adam Webb saved.

The home supporters did not have to wait long for the opening goal, a quality piece of play by Ioan Evans flighting his cross to the back post and Jonathan Mason chested the ball down and shot low past the City goalkeeper.

The momentum had swung towards the hosts, more excellent play should have brought another goal for Llwydcoed but Llwydcoed’s goal machine Ricky Carter failed to add to his goal bank.

The second half started with City moving and creating problems for Llwydcoed, they were finding too much shape in the hosts shape who be- gan to give away several free kicks. The Llwydcoed defence and goalkeeper Andy Hargreaves were being tested at regular periods. Gabriel Williams, Rhys Welch, John Marczak and Adam Hawkins withstood this difficult time as City’s Jordan Chubb, Callum Smith and Dean Palmer tried to break open the Llwydcoed shape.

After this spell of pressure when Llwydcoed’s players lost possession Tom Morris rallied his players and Ioan Evans, Joe Jenkins and John Marczak came back into the match regaining their composure.

A second goal for Llwydcoed would have been acceptable to ease the home supporters nerves and the man with the golden goal scoring touch Ricky Carter came up tops picking the ball up just over halfway spotted the City goalkeeper Adam Webb off his line and scored with a quality shot, this turned the match more towards Llwydcoed. Chances came and went for Jonathan Mason, Joe Jenkins and Ricky Carter.

Llwydcoed introduced their substitutes Liam Price, Callum Henry and Luke Davies.

Llwydcoed players had regained their moho and the impressive Ioan Evans was involved yet again with the third and final goal combining with Joe Jenkins, Oliver Roberts and Tomos Morris to give Jonathan Mason the chance to score which he did.
