MERTHYR/ABERDARE LEAGUE CUP GROUP STAGE

-

PERTHCELYN B ............ 4 GWAWR FC .................... 1

PERTHCELYN entertained Aberaman-based team Gwawr FC at Pentwyn Fields in this Merthyr/Aberdare Cup clash.

Gerry Hatch’s men were on the back of a good win the previous week, and started this game in fine form with Gavin Hatch coming close within the first two minutes.

David Gregory and Cameron Gray also forced great saves from the Gwawr keeper all within the first 15 minutes.

Gwawr were then reduced to 10 men when Matthew Dusser Jones got his marching orders for persistent dissent.

This created more space for an already dominant Celyn and when the ball came to the back post new signing from Tynte Rovers Neil Jones was there to poke the ball over the line from close range to give Perthcelyn the lead.

On 30 minutes the inform Jordon Lewis found space around the penalty spot and he vollyed in Celyn’s second which went through the keeper’s legs, which made it two in two for Lewis.

Perthcelyn then went 3-0 up before half-time when the away keeper dropped the ball into his own net.

The home side’s defence was marshalled well by captain Rhys Price, with Stephen Groves in fine form and veteran Stephen Jones roling back the years.

In the second half Celyn took their foot off the gas, and Gwawr became more defensive as they tired with 10 men.

It was until the 75th minute that Gavin Hatch completed Celyn’s scoring when his half volley found the net.

Further chances came for Celyn through Cameron Gray, Chris Hughes who hit the post and substitutes Leo Payne and Ethan Lewis, before Gwawr did get their consolation goal after a mix up in the Perthcelyn back line.

Man of the Match was David Gregory of Perthcelyn.

Perthcelyn will look to go joint top of the group next week when they play Quar Park Rangers of the Merthyr league, whilst a defeat would see Quar Park win the group and eliminate Celyn and Gwawr FC, so there is all to play for.
