£10,000 boost for park and ride scheme

-

THE Abercynon Park and Ride scheme will be further boosted this month with a £10,000 investment, which could see more parking spaces created.

The funding, which will “extend” the scheme, follows the first phase, which saw 150 parking spaces built on derelict land close to the train station.

That phase was delivered in 2010, and linked the area to the Navigation Business Park, with a new bridge over the river.

Now, Rhondda Cynon Taf council is looking to invest further, and it comes as part of its £550,000 investment to create additional parking spaces at train stations in the county borough.

The Abercynon proposals will be discussed at the council’s cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, leader of the council, said: “The Abercynon Park and Ride scheme hugely benefitted local residents since 2010.

“The parking facilities at Abercynon train station are now experiencing even more heavy demand, which is why the council is exploring the possibility of extending the scheme further.

“On the back of the successful work to complete phase one of the Porth Park and Ride scheme last year, the plans for Abercynon once again demonstrate the council’s commitment of investing in its priority areas through the wider £200m RCTinvest programme.”
