THERE will soon be no reason to be “caught short” in Aberdare after it was announced over £50,000 is to be spent on the town centre’s public toilets.

It comes after an increase in anti-social behaviour and abuse of the building at the bot- tom of Monk Street, and now Rhondda Cynon Taf council is looking to make upgrades and improve security at the site.

According to the local authority, the improvement will include new baby changing facilities in male, female and disabled toilets, new bowls and seats, new wash basins, hand drier and vanity area as well as new floors and rendered walls.

Speaking about previous anti-social behaviour issues, a spokeswoman said: “The council urges residents to report any incidents so that they can be dealt with immediately.

“The new facility will be fitted with vandal proof materials that are moulded together in a bid to minimise any future issues.”

In order to carry out the works, the toilets will be closed to the public until early April.

The council, which is making the investment, said during this time, people are advised to use the nearby facilities at Duke Street.

Once completed, the toilets will be available Monday and Saturday 9am until 5pm, Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm, and will be secured daily via an automatic locking system.

The area will also be regularly inspected by the council’s Streetcare team.
