Pub plan to bring back beer festival

A PUB is looking to revive a much-loved beer and cider festival after it received an overwhelming response on its Facebook page.

The Brynffynon Hotel, in Llanwonno, took to social media to see what followers thought of bringing back the annual beer and cider festival.

Within an hour, the post had received more than 1,000 “likes” and had been shared hundreds of times.

General manager of the Brynffynon and potential festival organiser Jamie Lewis said: “It’s still early stages yet and a decision has not yet been finalised but the response has so far been encouraging.”

The Brynffynon hasn’t run its beer and cider festival, which focuses on local products and local music, since May 2014.

But it wasn’t due to a lack of popularity that it ended. In fact, it seems to be the opposite.

Jamie said: “I think we were a victim of our own success. On the last Sunday we had a queue from the marquee, all the way around our pub. And that was at 11.30am and we didn’t open until noon.”

By mid-afternoon, Jamie, 33, recalled the queues weren’t getting any smaller and it seemed that the event had outgrown the pub and large marquee. They considered changing the venue, but instead started using the marquee for other events such as weddings and the festival was put on the back burner.

The organisers have said the venue will remain the same but to avoid problems, it’ll be a ticketed event and the numbers will be capped.

Discussing the festival’s return, Jamie said: “We have got a rough date in mind, but it’s still a secret right now.

“It will be this year and it will be a bank holiday.”

There is due to be an announcement on April 3 – so keep an eye on Brynffynon’s Facebook page for updates.
