FIVE TRIES FOR DOWLAIS AGAINST QUINS

-

DOWLAIS ..................... 33 CARDIFF QUINS ......... 18

THE match was played on a heavy pitch and credit must go to both teams for the standard of rugby played, also to the referee Dai Cambourne who had a feeling for the game and the players and refereed sensibly in difficult conditions.

Dowlais set about their task with great energy and were quickly into a 21-0 lead through two tries from wing Jake Howard, his fourth against the Quins this season and a penalty try all converted by Lloyd Hynes. A penalty for the Quins from Paul Adams made it 21-3 at the break.

If Dowlais thought the bonus try was a formality in the second half Cardiff Quins had not read the script and got stuck into the home side from the kick-off and were rewarded with tries from Jack Cross and Josh Crocker and one conversion and a penalty from Paul Adams.

Dowlais now had to dig in and start controlling the game once more, and this they did with the pack tremendous, No 8 and man of the match Kyle Prosser was strong going forward and driving over the advantage line. The pack, led by Craig Lynch, were now dominating and his second row partner Dai Kelly and the rest of the pack put in a tremendous shift in wearing conditions.

The bonus try came after a drive to the visitors line and Simon Griffiths touching down, Lloyd Hynes converting. The fifth try came from Tom Griffin after some secure handling by the backs.

Cardiff Quins must be commended for the way they played, running the ball at every opportunity and never giving up, it would be a shame if they were relegated on this performance.

On Saturday, Dowlais visit Mountain Ash, coach leaves at 12.30pm.
