PERTHCELYN B ............ 4 CWMBACH B ................. 2

TWO of the sides at the wrong end of the table met on a damp and pitch-soaked Pentwyn Fields.

Cup semi-finalists Perthcelyn were looking for a third win on the bounce, and welcomed a Cwmbach side who despite only starting with 10 men, would put up a great fight.

It was in fact Cwmbach who took the lead when a low drilled shot and a goalkeeping error allowed the game’s first goal.

Perthcelyn then made a formation change and this worked as within 10 minutes veteran defender Stephen Jones tapped in from close range to make it 1-1.

Just before the break however Jones was harshly judged to have pushed a Cwmbach forward in the box and the resulting penalty was cooly dispatched to give Cwmbach a 2-1 lead.

Local Perthcelyn players Stephen Groves and Graham Evans were introduced into the action at half-time and this seemed to give Celyn a grip on the game.

The lively Leo Payne in his debut season in football scored his first goal in senior football on 54 minutes to make it 2-2.

Then on 67 minutes Graham Evans did the same as Evans who was last season’s top scorer for Perthcelyn u16s grabbed his first goal in the mens game to make it 3-2.

The game was finally put to bed as on 79 minutes when Gavin Hatch vollyed from an acute angle to make it 4-2.

Credit to Cwmbach who kept going with a man less... and despite the conditions both sides played some good football.
