A DAD’S random act of kindness in memory of his son who died in 2004 led to children in the Cynon Valley with serious illnesses receiving a very special surprise.

A DAD’S random act of kindness in memory of his dead son led to children with serious illnesses receiving a very special surprise.

Paul Adamson releases balloons from his son Jamie’s graveside every Christmas Day to mark his birthday. He has done so ever since Jamie died of leukaemia in 2004.

To mark what would have been Jamie’s 18th birthday last year, Paul released 18 balloons. Attached were cards asking the finder to contact him at the Jamie Adamson Fund (JAM Fund), and asking for nominations of children in need of the charity’s help.

This year Jameson, 12, from Cwmbach, who is receiving treatment for a brain tumour, received an Xbox.

Sam, from Aberdare, who is under the same treatment, received £250 worth of GAME vouchers, as did Luke from Aberdare, who is being treated for leukaemia.

Tansy, 14, from Aberdare, who has also undergone two years of chemotherapy for leukaemia, received a 32in smart TV/ DVD combo and a range of DVDs.

Paul, 50, who now has two grandchildren, said: “I’m proud of what Jamie’s memory has achieved and how he dealt with his illness. He put my life into perspective and taught me many lessons in the five short years I had with him.”

The four children were nominated by a worker at Dow Corning in Barry after a colleague found one of the balloons in a garden in Wenvoe.

In total, 16 children across the UK received gifts worth up to £250 each.

Paul, whose other son Sam, 24, is a trustee with the charity, took the relatively short journey north to deliver the surprises. He said: “Obviously they were very excited to get the gifts. I am not able to make massive, grand gestures but I try and help children as much as I can and we think these gifts do a lot of good.

“I would like to thank all those who have supported Jamie’s charity over the years, as well as my wife Denise.”
