A CYNON Valley Welsh medium pre-school has received a glowing reports in its latest inspections.

Cylch Meithrin Seren Fach has been congratulated after it received “Good” in all areas of its recent Estyn inspection.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Mountain Ash school also achieved “Good” in all areas a couple of weeks later, in an unannounced inspection from the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales.

In the Estyn report, which visited the school in November, it said the setting’s current performance was good because “most children make strong progress in their literacy and numeracy skills, nearly all children are enthusiastic learners, nearly all children behave responsibly and learning experiences are planned well”.

Other achievements included teachers challenging children to perform at their best, a stimulating indoor area engages the children successfully and that practitioners worked well together.

Its current performance and its prospects for improvement were both rated as “good”.

Donna Davies, leader of Cylch Meithrin Seren Fach, said: “Thank you to all the staff for their continued hard work and commitment to the setting and to past and present children, parents and grandparents for all their support over the last few years which has helped us grow and develop as a setting.

“Without everyone’s support we would not have achieved what we have today which is a setting that is committed to provide the best possible start to a child’s education in a caring and loving environment.”

Cylch Meithrin is one of only two registered Welsh Medium pre-schools in the Cynon Valley, providing education for children aged two to school age, and receives funding for every three-year-old child the term following their third birthday, for 15 hours per week. It is a registered charity and keeps fees low as possible for affordable childcare.

On a recent visit to the school, Vikki Howells AM, said: “It was good to meet manager Claire Jones, the day to day leader Donna Davies and the rest of the staff and children at Cylch Meithrin Seren Fach.

“I heard about their strong links with Ysgol Gymraeg Abercynon and how they help deliver the best support for the children during their transition to full-time education in primary school.

“I want to congratulate all involved for their strong set of inspection results.

“The popularity of the setting is clearly growing, and staff told me that any parents who are interested should get their children’s names down as soon as possible as only limited spaces are available”.

Ms Davies added: “We want to thank Vikki Howells for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit us.”
