RYAN PROSSER hit his 150th goal for the Martyrs and debutant Josh Bull scored a brace as their side boosted their play-off hopes in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
Saturday’s 5-0 whipping of relegation-haunted Cambridge City was accompanied by the news that Banbury, just below the top five, had gone down 2-0 at Stratford. This left Gavin Williams’ Merthyr Town team still fifth, the last play-off spot, three points ahead of the Oxfordshire outfit bossed by former Cardiff City player Mike Ford.
Both teams have five matches left in their bid to launch a fight for the Vanarama National League Division One. Merthyr have a much better goal difference.
Banbury, who last week threatened they were on the heels of Merthyr, go to third from bottom Hayes and Yeading on Saturday while Merthyr are at Kings Langley, just one place above the relegation zone.
The season could go to the wire for the play-off challengers. But Chippenham, with 95 points, were top, six points above Leamington, on Saturday night. But Leamington were at bottom team Cinderford on Tuesday night.
For Saturday, Merthyr will still be without playmaker Keyon Reffell, the ex-Kidderminster player, who will be serving the last of a three-match ban
