THE University of South Wales (USW) women’s football team have become the new untouchables – winning every game they have played this season on their way to league and cup glory.

Last Wednesday, the first team won their final game of the league season when they beat Swansea University 6-1 – with a hat-trick from Ffion Price and strikes from Chloe Lloyd, Gemma Evans and Paige Rogers – ensuring they won each of their 13 games this season.

Swansea’s consolation was one of only two goals that the team have conceded this season on the way to being crowned British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Western Conference 2A champions.

Earlier this month they won the final of the BUCS Western Conference Cup against Hartpury College, with hat-tricks from Ffion Price and Lucy McDonough, a brace from Chloe Lloyd, and a Sarah Adams strike, securing a 9-1 victory – the only other game in which they conceded.

Coach Tim Jones was full of praise for the players following the unbeaten run.

“Going through a whole season and not losing a game is amazing at any level of sport, and something that are all incredibly proud of,” he said.

“We were neck and neck with Swansea for a big chunk of the season, but their loss to Bath gave us the chance to pull ahead and took the pressure off needing to beat Swansea twice.

“Though the pressure was off we are pleased to finish on a high continuing the positive, free-flowing attacking football we have played all season.

“Next season we’re looking to go one better and get ourselves another promotion. We’ll be playing in the Western Conference 1A, which is one below the ‘Prem’, and will be aiming to challenge at the top level of BUCS football.”
