Another safe pair of hands available at Nuffield Health
MANY conditions can affect our hands, wrists and elbows. Consultant orthopaedic hand and wrist surgeon Ryan Trickett, working with Nuffield Health Cardiff & Vale Hospitals, provides a safe pair of hands when it comes to treating these various ailments.
There are now five consultant hand surgeons at the Cardiff & Vale private hospitals, treating a variety of elbow, hand and wrist conditions.
Following his NHS consultant appointment in 2015 at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, Mr Trickett recently began his private practice at Nuffield Health Cardiff & Vale Hospitals.
He specialises in all aspects of elbow, hand and wrist complaints.
His areas of expertise includes surgery for nerve compressions such as carpal or cubital tunnel, Dupuytren’s disease, tendon problems, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as hand, wrist and finger injuries.
Mr Trickett said: “In the NHS I work as part of a specialist hand unit, treating patients from newborn babies to the very elderly. Each end of the age spectrum presents unique challenges and problems.
“My specialist hand surgery training at the nationally-appointed Advanced Training Post in the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, followed by further fellowship training at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre, gave me the experience to deal with the range of problems occurring in the hand.”
Outside of clinical work, Mr Trickett has an active role in research, sitting on the British Society for Surgery of the Hand Research Committee and is the lead consultant for the James Lind Alliance Research Priority Setting Partnership.
“Research helps us confirm what we think we already know, as well as test new ideas. It is important to be involved to guide the future of hand surgery,” added Ryan.
