Bionic dog Rodney needs ‘furever’ home

RODNEY, the little dog who needed new trotters, needs a new home.

The West Highland white terrier touched the hearts of a nation with his appeal for new bionic trotters.

Now fully recovered from pioneering surgery carried out by television’s The Supervet, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, Rodney is looking for a “furever” home of his own.

Rodney was just a few weeks old when he was rescued from a puppy farm by Eileen Jones, founder and coordinator of Friends of Animals Wales, based in RCT.

It is not known if he was born without back feet or if, due to the cramped conditions in which he was kept with his mum, his feet were chewed off.

While he was a bright and happy puppy, a visit to The Supervet’s internationally-acclaimed veterinary practice in Surrey, confirmed Eileen’s worst fears – Rodney was in pain and needed life-changing surgery to give him any quality of life.

People from across the UK responded to an appeal to help raise the funds that would be needed for Rodney.

They climbed mountains, held events, had their hair shaved off and even had tattoos to raise the money needed.

Following almost a year of treatment at Fitzpatrick’s Referrals, Rodney was given the all-clear earlier this year and his journey to recovery was featured on a special edition of the Supervet on Channel 4.

Rodney is currently in a foster home in South Wales and is now looking for a home of his own.

Eileen said: “Rodney is the dog loved by thousands but owned by noone.

“Just because he did not have an owner, does not mean he shouldn’t have the best-possible life.

“Thanks to the incredible work of Professor Noel Fitzpatrick and the overwhelming generosity of our supporters, that is exactly what has happened.

“This lovely little dog is now back on his feet and ready to have his own spot on someone’s sofa. Rodney’s bionic feet do not bother him in the slightest and he gets about just like every other dog.

“Rodney would be suitable to a home with older or dog-savvy children and can get along with confident cats. He would need to be an only dog though.”
