100,000th visitor for lido
LIDO Ponty has welcomed its 100,000th visitor – just days after opening for the 2017 season.
The lido reopened last weekend following its seasonal closure.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the original opening of the lido at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd.
The original lido opened on July 30, 1927 – the new £6.3m Grade II-listed outdoor family water attraction officially reopened to the public on August 29, 2015.
But it seems the sun didn’t only encourage visitors to soak up the sun last weekend, as it also contributed to breaking a record.
Julia Davies, of Pembrokeshire, was among the 1,500 visitors to Lido Ponty over the weekend.
She said: “We had a great time at Lido Ponty, such a fabulous day and amazing facilities – we will definitely be coming back this summer.
“The sky was blue and the water was lovely and warm. What a brilliant outdoor family attraction.”
Lido Ponty is now open for the Easter school holidays – it will close on Sunday, April 23.
The facility will then reopen for the summer on May 27, and will be available for use until September 10.
Visitors are able to book swimming sessions and activities online and in advance.
Customers are asked to bear in mind that limited spaces are made available daily and reservations cannot be made over the telephone.
Children under the age of 16 will be able to swim for free this year, and there will be a minimal charge of £1 for adults and £2.50 for activities.
There will be opportunities for lane swimming and more relaxed swims as well as a splash pool for little ones.
In addition, there will also be a host of activities available throughout the season from fun inflatables to Water Walkerz,
The lido will be open every day between 7.30am and 7.15pm – the days will begin with lane swimming sessions and will be followed by a casual swim and activities session.
