Lockyer out but not down

-

AS HIS teammates push for glory in the Principality Premiership and the National Cup, Pontypridd captain Dafydd Lockyer will sit out the remainder of the season due to injury.

Lockyer came off the pitch after the recent league tie away to Merthyr with a groin strain, which was later diagnosed as a serious tear of the abductor muscle. Further scans have revealed that an operation will not be required, but a period of six to eight weeks rehabilitation, which all but rules the dynamic centre out for the remainder of the current campaign.

Having hit top form of late Lockyer will have to watch from the sidelines as Ponty launch a concerted challenge for the league crown and the National Cup. Whilst feeling the frustration as well as the pain, the captain remains upbeat about his team’s chances.

“I am looking forward to the build up to the end of the season,” said Lockyer. “I’ve had a good run without major injuries over the past two years or so, and these things happen so I can be quite objective about it all.

“It will be difficult to watch from the sidelines with so much to play for, but I’ll be there backing the boys, making a contribution in the changing room and helping out in any way I can.

“Hopefully I can still play a big part off the pitch and we can celebrate the end of the season with some trophies in the cabinet.”
