HUNSLET ..................... 58 SOUTH WALES IRONMEN ...................... 6

THE Ironmen had only conceded 54 points in their previous three out- ings, all of which had end- ed in defeat, but the Park- siders eclipsed that total in a dominant 80 minutes, with bench hooker George Flanagan grabbing a hat- trick in the second period.

Jake Normington sent winger Marcus Webb over in the seventh minute, Joe Sanderson landing the first of his eight goals from 10 attempts and Hunslet, making regular inroads which brought valiant Ironmen fullback Andrew Gay into regular action, took control with three tries between the 23rd and 34th minutes, Mufaro Mvududu bulldozing his way over and Normington and centre Aston Wilson making the most of fine approach work by stand- off Joel Gibson.

The Ironmen claimed an opportunist score by substitute Connor Parker as the half-time hooter beckoned, stand-off Paul Emanuelli adding the ex- tras, but the second pe- riod belonged completely to the Parksiders.

George Flanagan bur- rowed over within three minutes of the resump- tion and, as the hour ap- proached, a sweet ball by Danny Ansell sent Sanderson over.

Two tries in as many minutes helped Flanagan complete his hat-trick, one a short-range individual solo score, the second after a break by substitute Nyle Flynn which was continued by Ansell. Ansell then sent Brooke Broughton over with seven minutes left as Hunslet breached the half-century and although the Ironmen, with hooker Connor Farrar and Emanuelli to the fore, showed their spirit by applying late pressure, the last word went to the hosts, the outstanding Normington racing over off a fine pass out of the tackle by Gibson.

“It’s very disappointing,” said Emanuelli. “We’ve worked hard on our defence but we were found wanting today.”
