Labour is ‘too weak to stand up for Wales’

-

LABOUR is too “weak and divided” to stand up for Wales, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has said.

She told activists in Bangor, as she launched her party’s General Election campaign, that Plaid Cymru offers voters an alternative to the Conservatives.

Ms Wood claimed Theresa May’s Government in Westminster would be a threat to jobs and public services and said protecting Wales was her priority.

“Defending Wales is at the heart of Plaid Cymru’s campaign in this crucial election,” she said.

“Our nation stands at a defining point in our history. In Westminster, we have an increasingly right-wing Tory party in government, hell bent on pursuing reckless social and economic policies.

“Meanwhile, the Labour Party is too weak and divided to prevent the Conservatives from doing their worst to Wales.

“Plaid Cymru kicked off its campaign today with a strong and clear message - only a large team of Plaid Cymru MPs can defend our nation from further privatisation, more cuts and an ever weaker economy.

“With the Tories threatening a historic victory, let’s send a historic message to Westminster that our nation will not roll over for the Tories and Wales will not be put up with being ignored or neglected.”

A YouGov opinion poll conducted last week after Mrs May called a snap general election predicts that Labour will lose nearly half its MPs in Wales with a loss of 10 - all to the Conservatives.

Plaid Cymru is predicted to retain its three seats and not make any gains.
