RUGBY

-

THE next phase of investment to improve facilities at Bargoed Park has commenced with Bargoed RFC undertaking ground and drainage work on the training pitch adjacent to the main field.

The work, which will be completed in time for the start of next season, will cost around £35,000 and is being funded by the Club with grant support from the Welsh Rugby Union and Sport Wales.

Club Chairman Neil Carter said: “We are committed as a club to continually improve all aspects of our involvement in rugby on and off the field.

“This new investment follows the £50,000 spent on the main field, car park, stands, changing and treatment rooms last year with the help of our loyal sponsors and represents the confidence we have in the future of rugby in the town.”

“We are proud that we are representing our community at the highest level of rugby in Wales below the Pro 12 and we want to ensure that our facilities reflect that status.

“The new drainage will benefit all our sides from juniors right through to the senior XV and will remedy the constant waterlogging which has plagued the ground for many year.”

The club is grateful for the advice provided by Chris Munro and Eleri Owen at the WRU and the invaluable support of Welsh Government sponsored body Sport Wales.

The work is being undertaken by specialist contractor South Wales Sports Grounds and overseen by surveyor Alun Lewis.
