THE ARJFL League held its cup finals at the home of Cambrain Acadamy thanks to a great relationship built over the last few years, which helps us provide a superb facility to make our cup finals feel special for those involved.

First up was the U16 final between Penrhiwfer AFC and Treorchy BC.

Despite a very good opening by Penrhiwfer, they failed to capitalise on the chances and it was Treorchy who who took the lead after 14 minutes. The game was very competitive but evenly fought but just before half-time, Treorchy doubled the lead as they demonstrated that little extra quality in front of goal.

Despite the endeavours, pushing to get a goal back left themselves vulnerable on the counter attack and a third goal midway into the second half killed the game as Treorchy BC lifted the ARJFL U16 Cup.

The U12 cup final was a superb occasion for both finalists as Penygraig BGC faced Tonyrefail BGC and the crowd were given an absolute treat as the youngest of our juniors took part in and end-toend nail-biter.

Despite both teams having chances it was 0-0 at half-time and it stayed all square going into the last 10 minutes and a it was Tonyrefail who broke the deadlock with a superb angled chip from Man of the Match Lucus Vaughan. A superb final and impeccable sportsmanship as Penygraig collect the runners-up awards and Tonyrefail were delighted to lift the ARJFL U12 Matthew Rees Cup.

The U14 League Cup had taken in new “Champions League” group format and after topping their respective groups and getting through the quarter-finals and semifinals the League’s top two, Carnetown FC and AFC Porth, were to treat the crowd.

The first half had very little goal action as both teams competed and battled hard for possession of the ball, and it was Porth who ended the half looking the stronger albeit still 0-0.

In the second half it was Carnetown who started to push and create chances and after 14 minutes the deadlock was broken as Carnetown’s Harvey Hughes smashed a rebound into the net, and a few minutes later he made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Another excellent match, and great respect at the end for both teams as Carnetown FC lifted the ARJFL U16 Cup.
