THESE adults with learning disabilities put on a carnival-themed show for guests this week.

The group from Rhondda Cynon Taf council’s Learning Curve service joined forces with Artis Community and Age Cymru to hold a creative carnival.

The event took place at St Mair’s Day Centre in Aberdare, and was also joined in by those who use the centre itself.

According to the council, it was made possible thanks to Age Cymru’s Gwanwyn Festival, Wales’ national festival to celebrate creativity in older people.

Coun Geraint Hopkins, Rhondda Cynon Taf council’s cabinet member for adult and children’s community services, said: “The customers and guests of St Mair’s Day Centre were treated to a riot of colour, music and dancing, thanks to the Creative Carnival.

“I know Learning Curve service users have been practising hard for the event and everyone, including their friends and family who arrived at the centre to support them, thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

“This event was made possible thanks to our partnership with Artis Community, which has helped the service users to develop their dancing and performance skills and Age Cymru, which delivers the Gwanwyn Festival to celebrate the creative achievements of older people.”

Learning Curve operates across RCT council and enables adults with learning disabilities to benefit from work-based experience and training - including accredited courses.

It has a popular garden centre at Maesnewydd, Trecynon, and is open to the public. It also offers plants, bedding, compost, hanging baskets, planters and more which have been made by Learning Curve’s service users.

The garden centre also has a coffee shop and a pottery which is open to the public.

Learning Curve service users in Rhondda and Taf are also keeping the county borough blooming with the hanging baskets, planters and lawn services they provide for community councils and Trivallis.
