Andy plays his cards right to win Cory contest
TREDEGAR Town Band continue to move into areas where brass bands are seldom seen.
From last year’s exciting adventure with the Ballet Rambert they found themselves performing for the ITV Britain’s Got Talent television show.
An ITV team filmed the band preparing for the show at Tredegar and filmed their live performance which was broadcast on the weekend of May 13-14.
Congratulations to 2017 Cory Composition Prizewinner Andy Wareham for his musical piece entitled “Tarot! Tortuous Tarot!”
Despite the name of the music, being the winner did come as a surprise to Andy.
The 22 year old’s composition was the unanimous clear winner, as declared by Liz Lane, Nigel Seaman, Christopher Bond and Cory MD Philip Harper. In addition to receiving a cash prize from Kapitol Promotions, the music will be published by Wright and Round and will be included on Cory’s forthcoming CD release.
The adjudicators for the 2017 Finals of The National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain which take place in Cheltenham in September and in the Royal Albert Hall in October have been announced by Kapitol Promotions. For the finals for the lower section bands, which take place at the Centaur Hall, Cheltenham Racecourse on the weekend of September 16-17, the adjudicators for the First Section are Paul Holland and Michael Fowles.
The Second Section will be judged by Tom Davoren and Paul Holland, the Third Section will be examined by Mark Wilkinson and Glyn Williams and the Fourth Section will have Stan Lippeat and Mark Wilkinson officiating.
The Championship Section finals take place at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on Saturday, October 14 and the three judges are Phillip McCann, Luc Vertommen and Howard Snell, who is the composer of the set test piece”Gallery”.
Tickets for the 2017 British Open Brass Band Championships held at Symphony Hall, Birmingham on Saturday, September 9, are going very quickly with the Upper Circle being sold out. There are just a few tickets available for the Stalls and the Grand Tier.
