AN abandoned kitten was left to starve to death after her owner moved out of her home in Aberdare. The woman has now been banned from keeping all animals for a year.

AN abandoned kitten was left to starve to death when she couldn’t open sachets of food she had tried to claw her way into after her owner moved out.

Six-month-old Mischa was left alone in the house when her owner, Rhiannon Sian Davies, left the property – leaving RSPCA workers “heartbroken” when they found the cat’s body.

The kitten was found when police broke into the property in Pleasant View Street in Aberdare in January. It was unclear how long she had been left on her own or how long ago she died.

Veterinary reports confirmed the cat died from dehydration or starvation, with the investigating RSPCA officer describing the “tragic find” of unopened sachets of cat food near the kitten’s dead body, which she had attempted to claw open.

Davies, 30, of Llwynderi, Pen Y Waun, was given a 10-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, and banned from keeping all animals for a year after admitting an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.

She was also handed a £750 fine and a £115 victim surcharge at the sentencing at Merthyr Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.
