IT’S congratula­tions to the Penydarren C who, despite this defeat, are crowned Division Two champions and promoted to the First Division next season.

Greg Butler 2x100, Glen Kitchen and G King took the first triples against the darts with victory over Kevin Hyde, Connor John and Drew Bradley 100 but the Pen were then quick to reply with Barrie Gilby 100, John Murphy 140 and Robert Pike edging past Phil Green, Mike O’Neill and Ieuan Morris for a level game going into the pairs legs.

Mike O’Neill 140 and Greg Butler kept the break-of-throw run going with a good win over Johnny Murphy and Barrie Gilby 100 but the visitors replied again with Kevin Hyde 140 and Connor John 100 beating Glen Kitchen 100 and Phil Green to level at 2-2. The first hold of the game came in the final pairs with Drew Bradley and Ceri Richards beating G King and J Rees as the Pen took a 3-2 lead heading into the singles matches.

Glen Kitchen 100, 140 took the opening singles with a 2-0 hold over Robert Pike 2x100 to level at 3-3 and then the X took the lead again at 4-3 with Greg Butler 5x100, 119 breaking the unfortunat­e Drew Bradley 123, 2x180 by a 2-0 margin. Phillip Green 2x100 held 2-1 over Ceri Richards 2x100, 125 pushing the hosts into a 5-3 lead before Kevin Hyde 140 beat Mike O’Neill 2x100, 123 pulling a fourth point back for the away side. G King 2x100 secured a 2-1 hold over Connor John 100, 140 putting the X 6-4 ahead with Johnny Murphy 100 claiming the last point for the Pen with a hold over S Rees.

THE Daggers A were promotion contenders going into the night but an absolute nightmare of a game blew everything out of the water leaving them disbelievi­ng and distraught.

Young Wayne Benbow, Tony Pollard and Wayne Robinson 125 got the Bowls boys off to a flier with a hold over Steve Probert 100, Mike Terrett and D George and then the score read 2-0 with Papa Mark Benbow 125, Dai Spencer 101 and Teg Powell 105 breaking Steve Llewellyn, M Griffiths and G Robertson.

Mark Benbow 100, 125 and Matthew Churchill 100 took the first pairs over Steve Probert 2x100 and G Robertson for a 3-0 lead with a break from Tony Pollard 140 and Wayne Robinson over Steve Llewellyn and A Jones 136 then making it 4-0. Wayne Benbow 2x100 and Teg Powell then made it 5-0 with a fine hold over Mike Terrett 135 and D George as the sides readied themselves for the singles legs.

Wayne Benbow 125 added to the Daggers’ woes with a break over Steve Probert 2x100 in the first singles and then it was 7-0 with Tony Pollard 2x100 holding over Mike Terrett. Mark Benbow 2x100 broke the throw of D George 100 making it 8-0 before the Daggers got a point with Steve Llewellyn 100 breaking Matthew Churchill 100 to end the chances of being whitewashe­d. Teg Powell 100, 121 made it 9-1 with a break over A Jones 100, 102 with Wayne Robinson completing the route with a last leg hold over G Robertson 118.

IT’S seven Lords a leaping following this result with the jubilant Lord Raglan claiming the Division Three title.

The Angel started brightly with Mark Jones, Steve George 100 and Mark Davies holding over Mike McLoughlin, Mike Matthews and Karl Hunt but the lead was short lived as Kieron Meek 100, Lance Thomas and Brian Meek 140 hit back beating G Hancock, C John and J Pugh 132 to level at one apiece going into the pairs.

Mark Davies and Glen Callen 121 regained the lead for the Angel with a hold in the first pairs over Mike McLoughlin and Karl Hunt but again the Lord replied with Kieron Meek 125 and Brian Meek 100, 140 holding over G Hancock and Steve George 100 to level. The final pairs saw the first break with Lance Thomas 100 and Kevin Snowden beating B Morgan and M Jones to put the home side 3-2 ahead going into the singles.

Mike McLoughlin 138 held the first singles over Chris John putting the hosts 4-2 ahead before Mark Davies beat Mike Matthews pulling a third point back for the Angel. Kieron Meek 100, 125 held throw over Mark Jones 115 in a good game for a 5-3 home lead which then became 6-3 with Lance Thomas 100 breaking J Pugh 100 in a nip ’n’ tuck battle. Brian Meek 180 beat Glen Callen 118 on throw for a 7-3 lead with B Morgan taking the final leg for the away side with a hard fought hold over Kevin Snowden 105.

THE cheeky Imp pinched a couple of legs at the beginning of this game that really should have gone to their opponents.

Wayne James 100, 140, Anthony Prosser and Paul Prosser took the opening triples against the throw with a fine win over Chris Davies, Steven Walker and Steffan Williams as the Imp took an early lead and then they pinched a 2-0 advantage with Adrian Williams, Idwal Peters and Trevor Williams holding over Sharif Rasul 100, Owain Pugh 100 and Brian Birch ahead of the pairs encounters.

Wayne James and Idwal Peters 125 made it 3-0 with a break over Chris Davies 100 and Steven Walker but the second pairs saw the Bullet gain their first point with Steffan Williams 100 and Sharif Rasul 140 getting the better of Anthony Prosser and Alan Hancox against the arrows. The final pairs went the way of the Imp with Trevor Williams and Adrian Williams 123 getting the better of Brian Birch and Owain Pugh for a 4-1 lead going into the singles.

Sharif Rasul 100 pulled a second point back for the Bullet in the first singles with a break over veteran Wayne James 140 to halve the deficit but the relief was short lived with Trevor Williams edging past Steven Walker for a 5-2 home lead. Owain Pugh 100 broke the throw of Alan Hancox for a third point for the away side but again the Imp responded with Terry Dowman breaking Steffan Williams and Paul Prosser holding over Brian Birch 140 for a 7-3 lead. The final point of the contest went the way of the visitors with Chris Davies holding over Anthony Prosser gaining the Bullet a deserved fourth point.

All teams and players are reminded that this Friday, June 23, sees the Grand Finals/Presentati­on Night take place at the Merthyr Labour Club.

Roll-call is taken at 7.30pm for a start of 7.45pm with the first Triples SemiFinal. Any players not present at roll-call will be eliminated from their respective competitio­ns.

Will all teams who have entered the Everson’s Sports & Trophies Merthyr Summer Darts League 2017 please note that the league informatio­n packs will be issued on Tuesday, June 27 at the Merthyr Ex Club from 7.45 pm to 8.45pm. Teams must collect their packs as none will be delivered.
