Community groups in running for award

-

THE Helping Hand campaign, launched by food giants Wall’s Pastry, will see an area in one community transformed as part of a £5,000 regeneration project and officials are looking for nominations from the public.

Already in the running are Canton Rangers Football Club, Little Lounge Community Café of Pontypridd, Lee Gardens Volunteers of Rhondda Cynon Taff, 1st Blaina Scout Group of Ebbw Vale, Llanrumney Minis and Juniors Rugby, Gwaun Meisgyn Primary School, 1st Penmark with Porthkerry Scout Group of Barry and Troedyrhiw Community Primary School.

Now the organisers are appealing for a final influx of entries from south Wales and the rest of the UK before the July 10 deadline, after which it will be over to an independent panel of judges.

Michael Holton, brand manager for Wall’s Pastry, said: “The standard of nominations has been outstanding, we’re really happy with all the different projects received.

“We’re keen to lend a helping hand to a project that really does need some TLC (tender loving care). We’ve received all different kinds of nominations, from sports clubs needing new changing rooms to scout huts needing a revamp.

“It certainly won’t be easy for the judges but we still want to hear from the public. Whatever your project is, submit it and you could be in with a chance of winning.”

The winning project, which will be announced on July 17, will see the renovation programme take place over a period of five days by a team of ‘handy helpers.’

The Helping Hand campaign will also see the winning nominee rewarded with a £500 cash prize for their project being chosen.
