THE 30 BEST RUGBY PLAYERS IN THE WORLD
MID DISTRICT RUGBY
THE 10th snnual George Morgan Trust Dinner took place recently at the Vale of Glamorgan complex,
writes Jamie Willis.
Over 200 guests from clubs of the Mid District Rugby Union and associates of the George Morgan Trust met for a fundraising evening for the Trust which supports young sportsmen and women in the Mid District area.
The highlight of the evening saw the induction into the Mid District Rugby hall of fame of former British and Irish Lions and Pontypridd legends Tommy David and Russell Robins.
The duo were given a superb tribute by BBC broadcaster Peter Johnson before Mid District Rugby Union president John Clayton presented them with their inductions.
After the induction and a splendid meal, former World Cup final referee Derek Bevan provided the entertainment with some fantastic stories of his remarkable career.
This was yet another fantastic dinner and plans are already under way for the eleventh dinner at the same complex.
RHONDDA & EAST GLAMORGAN DRU
THE Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU held their Annual Presentation evening at Porth Harlequins RFC last Friday evening.
The evening brought together the winning teams in last season’s REGDRU league and cups as well as dignitaries for the game in the area.
The highlight of the evening was the award of the prestigious George Morgan Medal to WRU director Ray Wilton for his services to the game.
Ray’s contribution to rugby in the area has been incredible over many, many years and the clubs and officials of the REGDRU recognised this.
Each club who were victorious in their league and cups were presented with individual trophies and plaques.
Collin Smith of sponsors Molson Coors and Mid District Rugby Union president John Clayton were present to make the presentations.
The structure and fixtures for next season’s Worthington MDRU 2nd XV leagues (formerly the Rhondda & East Glamorgan DRU) have been announced.
Bargoed and Penallta have left the structure to join the new WRU Conference so the leagues are set out as below.
There are three leagues this season rather than the four from last term.
Cup competitions will take place in the New Year once leagues have been completed.
