A COMMUNITY has raised nearly £6,000 for the family of one-year-old Pearl Melody Black, who was killed by a runaway car near her home in Merthyr on Sunday.

A COMMUNITY has raised nearly £6,000 for the family of one-year-old girl who was killed by runaway Range Rover on Sunday.

Pearl Melody Black died after an unoccupied Range Rover which had been parked in a driveway rolled down a hill in Heolgerrig, Merthyr Tydfil, and crashed into a wall which then collapsed.

Pearl was airlifted to Prince Charles Hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

Her eight-month-old brother was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The site on Heolgerrig, Merthyr Tydfil, is on a slope and police are investigating how the empty car came to be moving.

Pearl’s father, Paul Black, runs a tattoo parlour in the town and the singer has previously appeared on BBC talent show The Voice.

On Monday, her parents Paul and Gemma paid tribute to their beloved daughter.

They said: “Pearl was every single star in every single sky, she was as bright as the stars, when she looked at you with those eyes and she would melt your heart.

“She was the reddest pearl in the ocean and the sweetest melody ever written.

“She was the greatest dancer and she has left a massive whole in our hearts, the world will be a darker place without her. She was the reason we all lived.”

By Tuesday lunchtime, 48 hours after the tragedy, the community had rallied together to raise £6,000 for the family.

A JustGiving page has been set up with the aim of raising funds for the family for anything they may need.

The post on the fundraising page says: “We are trying to raise money for a well-loved family who have tragically lost their beautiful baby girl Pearl Melody Black.

“This money will go towards the family for any-

thing they need.”

As of Tuesday, more than 350 separate donations had been made.

Members of the community have also been changing their social media profile pictures to images of pearls in shells, in memory of the infant.

South Wales Police said the family are being supported by officers.

Anyone who saw the incident, is urged to call police on 101, quoting reference number 1700305658.
