THE Daggers put the Richards to the sword running out worthy 6-3 winners in their last league game of the current season.

Karl Manns 152 away and Mike Terrett got the Daggers off and running with a hold over J Twomey and Martin Treen in the opening pairs, and then 2-0 appeared with Peter Emmanuel and Charlie Davies breaking a gallant Rhys Llewellyn and Keith Lewis.

The third and final pairs saw a clean sweep and 3-0 lead for the away side as Dai Phelps 100 and Derek Dobbins beat A Carter and Jimmy Rees in a closely fought contest.

Karl Manns 2x100 dished out the dreaded “Tin Hat” against the throw to F Grey making it 4-0 to the visitors but then in the next game the “Hat” was handed back with veteran Keith Lewis 121 beating Peter Emmanuel to get the home side into the game.

The ever reliable Martin Treen 66 away, 100 beat Phil Morris 132 away in a great game to pull a second point back for the hosts with Mike Terrett then making it 5-2 to the Daggers with a gritty hold over J Twomey. Jimmy Rees earned the hosts a deserved third point with a win over Dai Phelps 100 before Derek Dobbins completed the win with a last leg hold over Rhys Llewellyn.

SECTION FIVE PENYDARREN SOCIAL CLUB A ........................... 3 BAILI-GLAS ................... 6

IAN Thomas and Cled Jones 100 apiece got the Baili away to a good start with a hold over Glen Jones and Peter McCarthy and then the visitors were 2-0 ahead with Terry Morgan and Steve Williams breaking a battling Jonathon Evans 100 and Phil Bond.

The visitors then made it a clean sweep of the pairs and a three-zip lead with Cled Jones 121 and Wayne Smalldon securing a fine hold over Richard Beynon and Nigel Owen.

Terry Morgan made it 4-0 to the Baili with a break over a gallant Jonathon Evans 135 but then the Pen hit back with Phil Bond breaking Steve Williams, who was making his first appearance of the season, and Richard Beynon then holding over Ian Thomas to pull two points on the hosts’ side of the scoreboard. Cled Jones made it 5-2 to the Baili with a good win over Nigel Owen before Peter McCarthy beat Tim Charleston to earn the hosts a third point.

Another season first then saw Wayne Smalldon 123 hold over Glen Jones to complete the Baili win.

SECTION SIX MERTHYR CONSERVATI­VE CLUB 6 DOWLAIS CON CLUB ... 3

THIS was a keenly fought contest with both sides giving their all in pursuit of victory.

Jonathon Davies 100 and Ian Evans took the opening pairs for the home side with victory over S O’Brien and George Quirke and 1-0 then became 2-0 with Chris Stansfield and Eddie Cunnington then breaking Mark Thomas and Scott Keefe in a nip ’n’ tuck affair.

The away side then got into the game with Gary Thomas and Gary Flye over John Hulbert and Ron Phillips to cut the deficit heading into the singles games.

Gary Flye levelled the contest with a break over Jonathon Davies 2x100 in the first singles and then the Dowlais side took the lead with Mark Thomas successful­ly holding over Chris Stansfield.

John Hobby made it three each beating Scott Keefe and then the home side regained the upper hand with Eddie Cunnington 100 away, 100 breaking S O’Brien 100, 135 in a great game. Colin Lloyd delivered for the hosts with a hold over Gary Thomas making it 5-3 with Ian Evans then completing the result with a last leg break over George Quirke.

SECTION SEVEN ROSE & CROWN ............ 6 FARMERS ARMS ........... 3

THE Rose ended their league campaign in full bloom with a very impressive 6-3 home win over the visiting Farmers Arms.

Liam Russell and Kristian Dowd opened the hosts’ account with a break over Sean Price and Wayne Morgan and then a following hold from John Wood and Rhys Donovan 100 over Alan Price and Trevor Jones saw the hosts go 2-0 ahead. Farmers old hands Dai Jones and Gary Price then got the visitors into the match with a good display against Steve Evans and Jac Titcombe 100 to cut the deficit to a single point as the teams prepared for the singles battles ahead.

John Wood 120 held the first of the singles over Trevor Jones increasing the Rose’s advantage to 3-1 which then became 4-1 with the impressive Liam Russell 2x100 breaking the throw of Sean Price. Kristian Dowd 100 kept up the pressure on the visitors with a good win over Alan Price and then an equally impressive break from Rhys Donovan 102 over Dai Jones increased the home side’s lead to 6-1.

The Farmers, much to their credit, refused to give up and continued to battle on with the last two legs going their way with fine wins for Gary Price and Wayne Morgan over Stuart Hughes 100 and Robert Gibbons 105 respective­ly to complete a highly entertaini­ng game.

All teams are reminded that the next meeting of the Everson’s Sports and Trophies Merthyr Summer Darts League will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at the Merthyr Ex Club starting at 8pm. All teams are to be represente­d and all monies owed to the league must be paid. At the meeting the draws will made for the preliminar­y rounds of both the Champions of Champions Cup and Supplement­ary Cup. Teams must attend to be made aware of their opposition for the games on August 25 as there is not another meeting before that date.

Registrati­on sheets are now available for the 2017/18 season of the Worthingto­n’s Merthyr & District Darts League and all teams old and new, pub or club are most welcome to join a really top class league and one of the best around. Registrati­on forms are available at the Baili-Glas and the Merthyr Ex Club. They are also available from the league committee members.

The AGM of the M&DDL will be on Tuesday, August 29 at the Merthyr Ex Club starting at 8.30pm. All teams must be registered by the end of this meeting with the league starting on Friday, September 29.
