Record sell-out for Nos Galan races

-

REGISTRATION for the famous Nos Galan Road Races has sold out in a recordbreaking five days, four months before the event actually takes place.

AN impressive 1,050 people will take part in the adult 5k fun run, while a further 325 athletes will take on the elite race.

There are still spaces remaining in all children’s races, but competitors are urged to sign up soon to avoid disappointment.

The annual Nos Galan Road Races take place in Mountain Ash each New Year’s Eve, in memory of legendary Welsh runner Guto Nyth Bran.

Celebrating its 59th anniversary, this is the fastest time in the history of the event that all elite and adult fun run places have been snapped up.

Coun Ann Crimmings, chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “Race places are always in great demand, with all race categories full to capacity well in advance of race night. But never before have we experienced demand of this magnitude.

“It is not that many years ago that we even had a registration desk on race night itself, but those days have now gone as more and more people race to get their place.

“The huge popularity of this event is down to the wonderful legacy gifted to us by our races founder, the late Bernard Baldwin MBE, and to the organisation of the event year-on-year.”
