MP gets stuck in lift at Commons
THE Cynon Valley’s MP had a good excuse for missing a vote in the Commons – she was stuck in a lift!
Speaking at Westminster last week, Ann Clwyd told the Speaker that although she had been in the building to take part in a vote the day before, she was not able to do so because she was locked not in a lavatory, but in a lift.
She told MPs: “Were it not for a Conservative party researcher, I suspect I would still be in the lift.
“It is very unsatisfactory, in our first week back after the recess, that there are problems with the lifts.
“Will the Leader of the House ensure that they are serviced? ”
Leader of the House, Andrea Leadsom, said she was sure the Speaker would be as concerned as she was to hear about the incident. She said: “I assure the right hon. lady that I will take it up later today.”
