WALES manager Chris Coleman and coach Kit Symons were at Georgetown Boys’ and Girls’ Club to help celebrate their 50th anniversary, a proud night for their chairman Terry Collins and his colleagues.

Also there were Merthyr-born players Gordon Davies and Brian Law.

Striker Davies was signed from the then Merthyr Tydfil by Fulham, later playing for Chelsea and Manchester City among other clubs, and Wales.

Law, a defender, played for QPR, Wolves and Milwall and had one cap for Wales.

Collins plays for Merthyr Veterans and older local football fans will remember his late father Derek who drove the Merthyr Tydfil team coach back in the 1970s when Maldwyn Davies was manager and also managing director.
