ABERCYNON’S MITCHELL JOINS 100 GOALS CLUB

DIVISION

-

THIS wind-swept Premier Division clash saw AFC Abercynon looking to get back to winning ways following the previous week’s 1-2 home reverse at the hands of AFC Aberaman.

Indeed, despite the conditions the visitors began knocking the ball around from the off and found the net after only seven minutes of play when striker Chris Mitchell opened the scoring courtesy of a deft finish.

Despite this set-back the home side responded well and gradually forced their way back into contention as they proceeded to blunt the AFC attack on the greasy surface.

However, on 25 minutes James Davies saw his looping header find the net to make it 0-2. But Gwawr again dug-in and reduced the arrears almost immediately with a well taken goal.

Yet only three minutes later Mitchell restored his side’s two-goal advantage with another left foot strike to make it 1-3. And just before the interval Tom Fournier added a fourth Cynon goal.

Ten minutes into the second half Chris Mitchell wrote himself into the AFC record books when he completed his hattrick to register his 100th league and cup goal in a red and black shirt. As the half wore on the home side continued to attack the beleaguered Gwawr defence and Mitchell then finished with aplomb for his fourth goal of the afternoon.

Indeed, Cynon added two further strikes during the latter stages before match official Alun Thomas signalled for full-time.
