NEWPORT .................... 14 BARGOED .................... 35

BARGOED secured their second bonus-point victory of the season as they beat Newport at a wet and windy Rodney Parade, writes Jay Bayford.

The Bulls bagged two tries in either half to take maximum points and end their run of three consecutive Principality Premiership defeats while Matthew Lewis was in excellent kicking form, ending the game with 15 points.

Bargoed raced into a 12-0 lead with both Ieuan Jones and Rhys Morgan crashing over inside 10 minutes.

Full-back Lewis missed the first conversion but was on target with the second.

The Black and Ambers finally found a way through as Owen Davies offloaded to Matt O’Brien who dived over the whitewash to surpass the 300-point mark for Newport.

He then got up to dispatch the conversion with ease.

But Newport continued to struggle and gave away a penalty, which Lewis kicked.

Newport got the last word of the half when Chay Smith scored after Jones and Alex Herbert had both been yellow carded for Bargoed.

David Evans put in James Pizey for Bargoed’s third try, with Lewis adding the conversion.

And the Bulls claimed the bonus point when Jordan Howells crossed with Lewis converting and adding two more penalties.
