NEW dedicated parking bays have been installed in Abercynon at the request of business owners in the hope of boosting passing trade.

ATTEMPTS are being made to boost trade in a Cynon Valley village.

New dedicated parking bays have been installed in Abercynon after business owners made the request, which will allow for more passing trade in the area.

It means people who want to stop their car on Margaret Street for a short period of time and pop into a shop for a loaf of bread or a newspaper, or to go for coffee, can now park for up to 60 minutes between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

The changes to the road in the middle of the Cynon Valley village were welcomed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Councillors Rhys Lewis and Elaine George, who said in a joint statement: “As Councillors representing Abercynon Ward, we want to help our local businesses to succeed and grow.

“We recognise that our businesses are important to the community of Abercynon Ward and the local economy.

“We are pleased that RCT Council accepted the need for dedicated parking for shoppers in Margaret Street and we look forward to the benefits that will derive from this proactive action.”

The new rules mean a one hour parking restriction applies between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, drivers are allowed to park for one hour with no return within one hour and outside of these days and hours, drivers can park unrestricted.
