MP’s cat is purr-fect candidate for top job

-

THE pet cat of the Cynon Valley’s MP is looking to break into politics himself, and is in the running to be the country’s top “paw-litical cat”.

Ann Clwyd is hoping her ginger Tom cat Alfie will win the title of Purr Minister 2017 in a competition organised by the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Alfie was spotted by Ms Clwyd under a hedge in a “wretched” state a decade ago.

He was taken in and has been cared for ever since.

Now aged about 12, Ms Clwyd describes Alfie as being “brave and now retired from active duty”.

He is one of six cats are in the running for the title, and Ms Clwyd said: “Alfie is a special cat to me. He is more than a pet, he is a loyal companion and I am sure he would be so proud to be crowned Purr Minister 2017.

“Alfie has all the attributes and qualities to becoming Purr Minister. If elected, he promises to fulfil all of the duties expected of a Purr Minister, and it will be one of the highlights of his life.

“Although Alfie did not have the best of starts in life, he has gone on to become a cat to be proud of – he is most definitely a Top Cat and would make the purr-fect Purr Minister.”

The winner will be announced on November 7.
